Ram-Board Floor Protection: A Quality Inspector's Checklist Before You Sign Off

Ram-board—the construction board, not the RAM inside a single-board computer—is worth the money, as long as the delivered product matches the spec. In Q1 2024, I rejected about 11% of first deliveries because the boards weren't consistent enough for safe work surfaces. That sounds obvious. In practice, it's the least checked part of a project.

This is about the thick, rollable, temporary floor protection that contractors lay down over finished floors before work starts. 3. Installation conditions

It looked like a manufacturing defect. It wasn't. The moisture in the slab was the problem. The material supplier eventually said the same thing: maximum substrate moisture follows the flooring manufacturer's instructions, not ours.

4. Seams and tape

If the project is outside and exposed to weather, a water-resistant board is not a waterproof membrane. And if you're finishing a floor that needs to “breathe” for the first 30 days, don't seal it under a moisture barrier.
